#4393: WEP connections created in Sugar always use open authentication
------------------------------------------+---------------------------------
Reporter: greenfeld | Owner: erikos
Type: defect | Status: new
Priority: Unspecified by Maintainer | Milestone: Unspecified by Release Team
Component: sugar | Version: 0.98.x
Severity: Unspecified | Keywords:
Distribution: OLPC | Status_field: Unconfirmed
------------------------------------------+---------------------------------
1. Configure an AP to support a WEP hexadecimal key, 128-bit, in 802.11
b/g (no "n") mode with WEP forced to "closed" or "shared" authentication.
2. Attempt to connect to this AP from Sugar, giving the same hexadecimal
key and choosing "shared" authentication.
3. The connection attempt will fail. Depending on the wireless card
model you may see entries in /var/log/messages stating that the
association handshake failed.
4. Switch to GNOME and view the Wifi connection settings in nm-
connection-editor. The connection will have been created with open
authentication.
5. Change the connection to "shared" WEP authentication in GNOME and save
the settings. Attempt to connect to the AP in GNOME and now the
connection will work.
GNOME's password entry dialog for a WEP AP never asks for the key entry
mode or WEP type, so perhaps some configuration logic has been removed or
is presumed behind-the-scenes.
Seen in OLPC 13.1.0 os24/os26 on more than one XO model/wireless card.
