Comment(by manuq):

 Pushed both, d77508b8 and 19039ee7 .  Added a comment in the code to
 explain the need of the conversion.

 Now, snowflakelayout: the activity icon is not displayed in the mesh view
 canvas.  Also seems that the other buddies icons sometimes are not
 displayed too.
