 I see again even stranger results, XO-4 with the patch applied:

 - start machine

 ---> cursor visible

 - use the view keys to switch between views

 ---> cursor stays visible

 - open Browse

 - click into the google search in the OLPC landing page

 - move so that the cursor is visible

 - use the view keys to switch between views

 ---> cursor disappears

 Now we seem to have introduced a weird cursor behaviour. When I go to the
 Journal I can hide the cursor sometimes by moving over specific areas.
 Switching between views and activities does hide the cursor.
