 Activity updater sometimes chokes when it has previously failed to
 successfully update due to unavailable internet connectivity.

 This probably could be due to poor exception handling in the updater code.

 Testcase
 1. Turn off network
 2. Run activity updater. It tries to update but can't due to no network.
 3. Cancel/Close the updater
 4. Turn on network
 5. Run activity updater
 6. It still cannot get update information
