Comment:

 I tried dx3g091.  Same symptoms.

 This time, I don't have a /var/log/messages so I can't get a stack trace.

 I don't see syslogd or rsyslogd running.

 I booted again and didn't see any blinks on the network LED.  (I might
 have missed something.)

 My Settings / Network says "ord.freedesktop.NetworkManager service not
 available"

 The Nieghborhood view shows only my icon in the center.
