Comment:

 After a *day* of trying more than half a dozen Live USB creators (mad
 props to the people at linuxpendrive.com, that was the only one to work),
 I tried booting from soas-3-mirabelle. Got the splash screen, and the
 little grey circles got to about 9 O'clock around the X-O symbol in the
 middle, when the screen went blank and got the message: "No root device
 found, boot failed, sleeping forever". ARGGGH!
