 FWIW I seem to remember raising this in the early days. Apparently this
 was the behaviour intended by the original author, the concern being one
 of privacy. Only photos/videos taken after you arrive in a shared session
 are available for you to download. I wasn't convinced by this privacy
 need, and the current behaviour is certainly quite confusing/unexpected.
