Comment:

 That border is the selection border, not the image border.

 I think it don't must be cleared, if you want clear the selection, can do
 it using the selection tool and selecting nothing. (one click outside of
 the selection). We can add a button to clear the selection and to select
 all, but is another problem.

 The problem with cleaning the selection after clear is we can't
 differentiate the selection what correspond to a image added to a
 selection created by the user.

 If you created a selection and clear the content don't want the selection
 cleared.
