Comment(by garycmartin):

 FWIW I added MIME support to Physics for the last release. I'm not
 convinced the file extension is of much value just now, but assigning your
 own MIME type allows physics Journal entries to be transferred with the
 "send to" feature and launch correctly on the receiving machine. BTW there
 are lot's of outstanding bugs I've reported for the in the "send to"
 feature so check trac if you hit a snag. The glaring one being the
 receiver can't accept your file if their sugar doesn't yet recognise the
 MIME type (so make sure your app is installed at both ends before trying
 to send a file). Walter ping me and I can point to what you'd need to add,
 changes are minimal (as Sugar seems to ignore a bunch of the GNOME
 specific stuff - likely bugs but I need to retest).
