 I guess for me  the optimization succeeded in distinguishing the two
 actions so that the result is no longer the same (at least with the
 current implementations).  One is a lot quicker, so I don't want to make
 the 'mistake' of rebooting when I want to reset the X session.

 So the benefit is mainly time saving (which may be most useful during
 limited class times), but also the satisfaction that I haven't been
 surprised by a signal with different results.

 Its clearly not an urgent need, but something nice, if justified, to add
 to a reliable interface.
