 I tried transferring some Journal entries using both copying to USB (via
 dragging the object from within the Journal) and using the "send to"
 mechanism.

 In both cases, the .gtar file was intact, but there was no mime type
 associated with the object, so there was no longer any activity associated
 with it for resuming.
