Comment:

 Have seen the same thing on my own laptop (Dell Precision M60).
 What helps for me is to remove the usb stick and then insert it again.
 Wait for all the messages (identifying the stick and recognizing
 the device, /dev/sdb in my case).
 Then hit return so you get the shell prompt.
 Exit the shell (e.g. using Control-D).
 For me boot continues and the sugar UI appears.

 My guess is that the stick is not properly dismounted
 at shutdown due to the computer shutting down too fast
 and removing power to the USB stick before it is finished
 flushing the data.

 I used the same stick on other laptops which did not show
 this behavior.
