Comment:

 After a quick dive into Makefile.am I see that my above comment isn't true
 (the test is checking DESTDIR, not availability of gtk-update-icon-cache).
 Instead, a system dependency on gtk-update-icon-cache should be added - in
 the case of Ubuntu and Debian, it's contained in libgtk2.0-bin.
 So please add libgtk2.0-bin to all of config/sysdeps/{debian-5.0.xml
 ,debian-unstable.xml,ubuntu-8.04.xml,ubuntu-8.10.xml}.
