 I have started working on a SOAS implementation using Ubuntu 8.10 as the
 underlying OS.

 The first release with all of it's  bugs is here:

 The (linux) application to create a LiveUSB from a running LiveCD or
 download '.iso' is called usb-creator (is python/gtk should should be ok
 to sugarize ;-)

 There are multiple applications which allow one to create a LiveUSB from a
 LiveCD 'iso' from the Windows desktop/prior to burning/running the linux
 CD. For example http://unetbootin.sourceforge.net/

 We would need to consider whether the method of creating persistance is
 compatable across differ OS bases...
